We’ve all been there—hemming and hawing over whether to buy something immediately, or wait until it goes on sale. However, what most people don’t realize is that retailers have a method to their markdowns; designating certain days of the week to slash prices.
Recently, the couponing website, Rather be Shopping shared its list of popular retailers and when they mark items down. For this week’s Frugal Friday, I combined their findings with some of my firsthand experience, to bring you best places to shop, each day of the week:
Monday: Gymboree typically marks items down on Mondays. Looking to save even more? Visit Gymboree’s website, enter your email and you’ll save 20% off your next purchase—plus you’ll score free shipping on any online order of $50 or more.
Tuesday: It’s hard to believe that the prices at Dollar General can get any lower—but they can. The retailer typically marks merchandise down on Tuesdays, often times up to 90% off regular prices. Click here for coupons to save you extra cash—including a $5 off coupon you can use this Saturday.
Wednesday: Fan of TJ Maxx? Shop there on Wednesdays—that’s when you’ll typically find employees doing markdowns. New items typically arrive three to five times per week, making it necessary to move merchandise quickly.
Thursday: Employees at Babies “R” Us typically start slashing prices on Sunday and finish up with markdowns by Thursday. Thursday is also the day when many unadvertised sales go into effect, making it the best day of the week to shop.
Friday: This is the day when employees at Target mark down items in the auto, cosmetics, hardware and jewelry departments. And there’s more good news—Friday is the day that wraps up a week full of markdowns, as different items are discounted on different days at Target. For a full markdown schedule, click here.
Saturday: Kohl’s is regularly marking items down, but on the second and fourth Saturday of every month is when you’ll find the best prices and the most discounted items. Click here to save even more cash with coupons straight from the retailer.
Sunday: Macy’s typically begins marking items down on Sundays and aims to finish slashing prices by Wednesday.
One more piece of advice —if you have an item you can’t wait to buy, hold on to your receipt. Policies vary by store, but typically, if the price of your item drops within a certain period of time, many retailers will refund you the difference.
